Many people come to the market to chat as well as to shop and it's a good place to meet the locals and hear local issues discussed.
The market is open Saturdays and Bank Holidays from 8.00am to 6.00pm and Sundays 2.00 to 6.00.
Dunguaire Castle Dunguaire Castle is probably the most famous land mark that is associated with Kinvara. The castle was built in 1520 by the O'Hynes clan on the picturesque shores of Galway Bay. This restored 16th century tower house sits on a rocky outcrop on the shores of Galway Bay, 300 yards outside the village of Kinvara.
Today, Dunguaire Castle is managed by Shannon Heritage, and is open daily for visitors to explore to visitors from April through to October from 10am - 5pm. (Reservations are not necessary to visit)
Dunguaire Castle Banquets At night the castle is the venue for the Dunguaire Castle Banquet which takes place Mid April - Mid October at 5.30pm & 8.45pm. Reservations are necessary for the evening banquet.
Ionad Oidhreachta Leitir Mealláin agus Gharumna A lot of interest was shown in cultural and heritage exhibitions held in recent years of the private collection of the local historian John Bhaba Jeaic Ó Confhaola and thus the committee decided to find a permanent centre to exhibit the rich heritage of the area and is doing great so far. John has a fine collection of old books in Irish and English as well as newspapers and magazines from times past and these have been recorded on a database in the centre and students and researchers alike are more than welcome to use the facilities provided. You will see a great exhibition of tools and instruments from long ago in the centre as well as blacksmith, carpentry and farming tools to name but a few. John has a rich collection of photographs of families in the area and of old customs practised in the area in times past and these give a great insight into life as it was. As recognition of the work that has been done and is still ongoing in the Heritage Centre, we got second place for the Connemara Electoral Area in Galway County Council’s County Heritage Awards 2009.
